Under a renewed contract with The Commonwealth Fund, Douglas McCarthy of Issues Research will continue to serve as senior research director during 2016, overseeing the Tracking Health System Performance initiative’s two related components: 1. Health system performance scorecards. A hallmark of the Fund’s public-reporting efforts for nearly a decade, these resources help track changes in health care quality, access, equity, and outcomes at the local, state, and national levels and among specific populations. 2. Case study research. Case studies describe the experiences of high-performing organizations, regions, or localities and derive lessons about factors enabling or constraining performance. The growing number of scorecards and case studies produced by this team to date provides performance benchmarks and improvement targets to inform understanding and action by policymakers and their staff, health system leaders and providers, and thought leaders and the public.
