In November 2019, the Health Care Cost Institute (HCCI) announced a new data sharing partnership with Blue Health Intelligence (BHI) which will contribute an additional 45 million covered lives to the HCCI dataset. This will restore its data access, but the partnership with BHI requires HCCI to incur, for the first time, substantial costs related to data acquisition, data aggregation, and hosting expenses. Total costs will be approximately $3 million per year for 2020-2022. HCCI is seeking additional funding to cover the additional $1 million in infrastructure costs. The project would allow HCCI to continue to maintain and even expand their database while giving them time to generate a new business model to ensure their survival.
