This project seeks to understand what we know about competition and its execution in health care and what can be done to improve it. There are three key parts to this research project: 1) assess and summarize the economic literature on what we know about the role of competition in healthcare today, with a focus on geography, services, and payers; 2) assess and summarize what is known about options to enhance competition and the effectiveness of competition, matching remedies analyzed to the three dimensions described above; and 3) provide potential directions for future research.
