Under this project, the Fund would partner with Report for America (RFA) to increase local reporting on health equity by supporting three RFA corps members at regional outlets: the Arizona Center for Investigative Reporting, Phoenix — data-driven, investigative reporting on health disparities in Arizona’s rural communities; the Washington Informer, Washington, D.C. — health care in D.C.’s Black community; and the Charlotte Post, Charlotte, N.C. — health care in Charlotte’s Black community.
RFA places a strong emphasis on racial diversity — 45 percent of corps members are journalists of color — and would prioritize placing corps members of color in these reporting roles. In addition to financial support for members’ salaries, RFA recruits, matches newsrooms and corps members, and provides training and mentoring for corps members and newsrooms.
