What Might a Medicaid Work Requirement Mean?

<p>The Trump administration has made work requirements a hallmark of its Medicaid policy proposals. In fact, the idea is included in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ just-released 2018 budget proposal and in its Medicaid demonstration agenda. The House-passed American Health Care Act also includes such requirements.</p><p>In a new post on <em>To the Point</em>, George Washington University’s Sara Rosenbaum and colleagues look at state 1115 Medicaid demonstration proposals, which allow the federal and state governments to test innovations in Medicaid, along with recent state legislation to gain insight into the kinds of policies more states might consider if Congress passed a law permitting Medicaid work requirements without the need for special waivers.</p>
