<drupal-entity data-embed-button="media_browser" data-align='left' data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="2f80d260-1000-4abf-9226-dac6cf0e311a"></drupal-entity>We invite you to an event marking the 40th anniversary of the Medicare and Medicaid programs on July 26 from 3:00-5:00 pm at the Kaiser Family Foundation's Washington, DC, building, 1330 G Street, NW.<br style="line-height: 1em"><br style="line-height: 1em">Following opening remarks from Kaiser Family Foundation president Drew Altman, historian Robert Dallek will shed light on the political and social environment in which these programs came to be and former secretary of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare Joseph A. Califano, Jr., will add remarks about his time as an advisor to President Johnson and the inception of the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). Kaiser vice president and former ABC news correspondent Jackie Judd will then moderate a panel of former HCFA/CMS administrators in a conversation about the major successes and challenges of Medicare and Medicaid during their tenure. The participating panelists include: Robert Derzon, Nancy Ann DeParle, William Roper, Leonard Schaeffer, Thomas Scully, Bruce Vladeck, and Gail Wilensky.
