I would like to inform you of a staffing change in The Commonwealth Fund's Program on Health Care Quality Improvement and Efficiency. Anthony (Tony) Shih, M.D., M.P.H., who has led the program for the past two years, is departing the Fund to rejoin IPRO, one of the nation's largest not-for-profit quality assessment and improvement organizations, as its Chief Quality Officer and Vice President for Strategic Planning. Tony's performance at the Fund for the past two years has been nothing short of spectacular. We wish him well in his new position with IPRO and hope that he will stay engaged with the Fund's work in the years to come.

We are very pleased, however, to be welcoming back Anne-Marie J. Audet, M.D., M.Sc., who will once again head the program as Vice President for Health Care Quality Improvement and Efficiency. Anne-Marie, who helped build the program during her first tenure with the Fund, has returned with renewed vigor to foster innovative approaches to improving performance of the health care sector. In addition to managing all grants within the program and identifying new areas where Fund support can make a difference, she will undertake her own research and analysis, oversee the Fund's highly regarded newsletter Quality Matters, and seek out opportunities to disseminate the program's work and expand its reach and impact. She will also work closely with the Fund's Commission on a High Performance Health System in its efforts to revamp and retool the U.S. health system.

Anne-Marie joined The Commonwealth Fund on July 7. We are very fortunate to have such a talented, dedicated individual lead our efforts in this important field.

Stephen C.
