<strong>Grandfathered vs. Non-Grandfathered Health Plans Under the Affordable Care Act: Striking the Right Balance</strong>

Collins, vice president for Affordable Health Insurance at The Commonwealth Fund, says recently released regulations that clarify the meaning of "grandfathered," or existing, health plans in the Affordable Care Act appear to strike the right balance between allowing people to "keep the plans they have" and ensuring that people will not be locked into plans that deteriorate significantly over time.</p>

<strong>Why Congress Cannot Continue to Postpone Physician Payment Reform</strong>

<br />In a commentary on the Senate's postponement of a scheduled 21 percent cut in Medicare physician reimbursements, Stuart Guterman, assistant vice president for Payment System Reform at The Commonwealth Fund, says this issue will not go away by itself. Unless the recurring cuts in physician fees produced by Congress' current payment formula are eliminated, Guterman says, it will be difficult to engage providers and convince them to partner with Medicare to produce desperately needed payment and delivery system reforms.</p>
