In 2016, NASHP will convene three meetings to bring together 20 to 25 stakeholders for a one-day facilitated discussion led by NASHP’s executive director. Potential topics, to be developed jointly with the Fund, include: policy levers to sustain health care coverage, promoting value through health insurance exchanges, moving from fragmented to integrated care, fostering productive relationships between Medicaid programs and the health insurance marketplaces, and achieving flexibility to improve the federal waiver process. The project team will aim to disseminate findings and lessons farther afield through NASHP’s state health policy newsletter and email listservs, as well as through strategic partnerships with other Fund grantees, such as the Alliance for Health Reform, National Governors Association, and National Conference of State Legislatures. Federal and state officials will gain a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing both federal and state policymakers, which should aid the development and implementation of reforms that improve quality of care, promote health, and reduce costs. By expanding dissemination of key takeaway messages, NASHP also should be able to reach a broader group of policymakers.
