NGA will work with up to 10 states that have approved Medicaid transformation waivers, or are preparing for or in the process of negotiating such waivers with CMS, to identify the steps required in pursuing or refining transformation initiatives. The participating states will define their priority areas for guidance, but they are likely to include: holding plans and providers accountable for improving population health; planning and refining implementation and evaluation, including the establishment of appropriate benchmarks; and engaging stakeholders.
Guidance provided through NGA’s forum will help senior state leaders develop strategies for sustaining Medicaid transformation efforts and prepare for engagement with the new presidential administration. The forum also will enable NGA to highlight for federal officials states’ ideas and concerns regarding Medicaid reform issues.
