The eighth in a series of grants to the London School of Economics and Political Science will support a team of health policy experts as it examines strategies adopted by industrialized countries to slow the growth of health care expenditures. The study will focus specifically on national priorities for cost containment, the balance between health and social care spending, provider payment reform, and ways to minimize use of “low-value” health services. The team will pay particular attention to the impact of cost-control efforts on high-need, high-cost patients and vulnerable populations. Project findings will be presented at the Fund’s 2015 International Symposium, and selected papers will be submitted to the journal Health Affairs.
