Articles currently under consideration examine the following topics: trends in market concentration since 2010; the impact of provider and insurer market concentration on healthcare prices and premiums; antitrust and regulatory responses to market power in health care sectors; the effect of vertical and cross market mergers on competition and prices; and what can be done, including federal and state policies, to improve competition in health care markets.
The Health Affairs website receives about 10 page views per year, conducts outreach to more than 3,000 media contacts, regularly posts new information and links for 124,000 Twitter and 12,000 Facebook followers, and provides daily e-newsletters to more than 25,000 individuals. Disseminated to Health Affair’s extensive readership, this project will provide timely research on the effects of increased market concentration on consumers, as well as inform antitrust enforcement actions and whether pending and future mergers and acquisitions should be approved.
