This authorization will support the recruitment, selection, and U.S. tenure of Harkness Fellows from up to nine countries. Candidates will include promising mid career professionals, including policymakers, researchers, and clinical leaders. Those selected will spend 12 months working with leading U.S. experts to study health care delivery reforms and critical policy issues in both the U.S. and fellows’ home countries. Throughout the year, Fund staff will bring the fellows together for a series of high-level policy briefings and site visits. In 2018, activities will be developed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the health-oriented version of the Harkness program.
The 2017–18 class of Harkness Fellows are expected to produce research supporting health reform efforts in the U.S. and their home countries. Leveraging their experience, fellows will move into positions of influence in policy, academia, and health care delivery.
