This project presents an opportunity to work closely with Blue Shield of California Foundation, a longstanding and important foundation partner, to develop resources that will support entrepreneurs, health systems, payers, and others in scaling and spreading models that improve patient experience, reduce costs, and improve health outcomes.
The project will develop detailed, evidence-based criteria for determining:
1. Whether a model is ready for replication. Examples: quality of evidence of effectiveness or presence of program features known to be critical for success.
2. Whether a receptor site is ready to adopt the promising model. Examples: engaged executive and clinical leadership, adequate data infrastructure, or experience with process improvement.
3. Whether local market conditions will support model adoption. Examples: value-based payment, multipayer buy-in, or history of community-level collaboration.
The project team will conduct a literature review, interview experts, and work closely with a planning committee before holding a two-day workshop to review the identified criteria and the resources for facilitating innovation spread and scale. The planning committee will be co-chaired by Commonwealth Fund and Blue Shield of California staff, and foundation leadership will participate on the committee and in the workshop.
This work will aid health systems, payers, providers, entrepreneurs, and others in their efforts to maximize the impact of programs that have been demonstrated to improve patient care.
