On June 3, 2013, more than 200 congressional and administration staff, journalists, and other Washington, D.C., policy stakeholders convened for a briefing to discuss the sustainability of the Medicare program. The panelists, including Karen Davis, director of the Roger C. Lipitz Center for Integrated Health Care at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, president of American Action Forum, and Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, provided perspectives on modernizing Medicare to improve the efficiency of the program, improve the quality of care and reduce health care costs. The briefing was comoderated by Ed Howard, executive vice president of the Alliance for Health Reform, and Stuart Guterman, vice president and executive director of The Commonwealth Fund’s Commission on a High Performance Health System.
