With Support, Small Practices Make Transition to Medical Homes

Findings from a randomized controlled trial reported in the Journal of General Internal Medicine show that small primary care practices that were given significant support—including robust electronic health records, care managers, and pay-for-performance incentives—were able to become patient-centered medical homes more quickly than practices without such support. Still, the Commonwealth Fund–supported researchers found no significant savings, though intervention practices saw some improvement in their quality of care.
