The National Health Service (NHS) estimates that it could save £1.2 billion over five years by improving and expanding telehealth and telecare services. According to a Department of Health randomized control trial, known as the Whole System Demonstrator program, use of telehealth and telecare can bring about a decrease in health care utilization, as well as an accompanying improvement in quality and outcomes. The study found a 20 percent decrease in emergency admissions and a 14 percent reduction in the length of hospital stays, among other benefits.
