Podiatrists and Physical Therapists to Gain Prescribing Powers

The U.K. is moving ahead to allow physical therapists and podiatrists to prescribe medicines when clinically appropriate. By giving these clinicians the power to prescribe, patients will be able to more quickly receive the medications they need. Clinicians who complete the Health Professions Council–approved training would be able to prescribe medications such as anti-inflammatories by 2014. The U.K. would be the first country in the world to allow physical therapists and podiatrists to independently prescribe.
