Specially trained pharmacists in New Zealand will soon be able to prescribe medications to patients who are under the care of multidisciplinary teams. Medical practitioners will act as mentors to the pharmacists, providing supervision and advice and holding primary responsibility for diagnosis and wider patient management. The first class of trained pharmacists is expected to graduate early in 2014.
