With support from The Commonwealth Fund, researchers examined initiatives to improve the quality of care in nursing homes.
- The effects of a Florida incentive program intended to improve care at nursing homes with low staffing levels and a high share of Medicaid-insured residents was the focus of a study in the Journal of Aging and Social Policy (Jan. 2013).
- Does the use of mechanical lifts in nursing homes to move residents—for example, from a bed to a chair—lead to less frequent and less costly workers' compensation claims? Researchers reported their findings in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (Jan. 2013). A related study published in the same issue examined the relationship between residents' well-being and the availability of lift equipment as well as safe-lifting policies and procedures.
