Mary Jane Koren to Retire from The Commonwealth Fund

Mary Jane Koren, M.D., vice president, Delivery System Reform, has announced her intention to retire from The Commonwealth Fund at the end of 2013.  Dr. Koren joined the Fund in 2002, with an already distinguished career as an accomplished clinician and health care policy practitioner.

During the past 11 years at the Fund, leveraging her extensive experience and expertise, she's made an enormous impact on the field of caring for frail elders. Her significant accomplishments range from her pioneering work in nursing home culture change, to more recently, improving nursing home quality through the Advancing Excellence Campaign.  Dr. Koren has won a number of important awards over the years, culminating in 2010 when she received one of the highest honors in health philanthropy: the Terrence Keenan Leadership Award from Grantmakers in Health.

She will be missed at The Commonwealth Fund, but leaves the legacy of her work. "The Fund's new strategy in delivery system reform, focusing on high-cost high-need patients, reflects Dr. Koren's important work in frail elders," said Commonwealth Fund president David Blumenthal, M.D.
