Infographics: Primary Care Shortages, Variation in C-Section Rates

Two new infographics explore the implications of new data added earlier this fall to WhyNotTheBest.org, The Commonwealth Fund's benchmarking tool:

  • Is There a Doctor in the County? uses County Health Rankings data to illustrate the wide variation across Texas in the number of residents per primary care physician. Demand for primary care is expected to grow as millions of people gain coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
  • All-payer data from 19 states are used to explore variation in rates of cesarean births, from 36 percent in Florida to 20 percent in Utah. Compared with vaginal births, cesareans are more likely to lead to complications for both mother and baby and result in much higher costs.
