Health Care in the 2012 Presidential Election: How the Obama and Romney Plans Stack Up

Governor Romney's health care proposals would leave 72 million people uninsured in 2022—with children and middle-income Americans particularly hard hit—while the Affordable Care Act will lower the number of uninsured to 27 million within a decade, according to a new report by Commonwealth Fund researchers.

The analysis, which compares full implementation of the Affordable Care Act with Romney's plan to repeal the law, provide states with Medicaid block grants, and create new tax incentives to purchase individual coverage, features estimated changes in state uninsured rates and uninsured rates for different age and income groups. An interactive map highlights the state-by-state impact on the uninsured and an infographic illustrates the projected numbers of uninsured by age and income.
