Engaging Health Care Journalists

How to promote good health care journalism was the subject of an interview with The Commonwealth Fund's Barry Scholl reported by the Communications Network, a membership group promoting communications as part of effective philanthropy. Scholl, the Fund’s senior vice president for communications and publishing, described a number of initiatives the foundation has pursued recently, including a pilot program to provide content for small-town newspapers, educational sessions for business journalists, and support for a health care journalism blog in the Columbia Journalism Review.

"The Affordable Care Act is going to bring vast changes to the U.S. health care system over the next two years," says Scholl. "There's plenty The Commonwealth Fund, and other foundations, can do to help ensure that the media are ready to report accurately on the impact of this landmark law."
