Doctors Now Able to Use Mobile Devices to Access Patient Records

Doctors and other authorized health professionals can now use mobile devices to access their patients' records for hospital visits, treatments and procedures, and tests and hospital lab results at 28 hospitals across the Hamilton region and other parts of southern Ontario. The expansion of access to records on devices such as iPads and cell phones means that information like diagnostic test results will be more easily available in real time, allowing health providers to make quicker decisions and provide faster care.

The system, called ClinicalConnect, has bank-like levels of security to help ensure the privacy of patients' health information. eHealth Ontario funded ClinicalConnect’s $5.3 million expansion to mobile devices, and the federally funded Canada Health Infoway organization invested $1 million.
