When they're implemented in 2015, the Affordable Care Act's "sunshine" provisions will require health insurers to publicly report a wealth of industry data on coverage and claims. In a new blog post, Justin Giovannelli, J.D., and colleagues from Georgetown University Health Policy Institute's Center for Health Insurance Reform discuss the likely impact of the new disclosures, which they say "will enable policymakers to see, as never before, how private health insurance is working for real people (and how it is not), permit apples-to-apples comparisons across plans, and supply the hard data critical to health care payment and delivery system reforms."
