Faced with spiraling health care costs, the Swiss government plans to change the payment structure in the country's ambulatory care system. Health Minister Alain Berset announced that provider payments for some high-volume specialty procedures, including cataract removal, colonoscopies, and radiotherapy, will be reduced by 10 percent. The government says that these procedures can be performed much faster today than previously, thanks to technological advances. It is estimated that this reduction will reduce health costs by 470 million Swiss francs next year.
