A record number of Australians visited their general practitioner last year without incurring any out-of-pocket costs, thanks to additional government funding for the federal Medicare insurance program that covers all citizens and permanent residents. To ensure greater access to care for Australians, the Turnbull administration has committed to further increasing Medicare funding, from AU$23 billion in 2017–18 to AU$28 billion by 2020–21.
