Safety-net hospitals in states that expanded Medicaid coverage under the ACA have become more financially stable relative to those in states that didn’t expand. The improved outlook for these crucial providers of care in underserved communities is due to larger increases in Medicaid revenues as well as reduced costs for uncompensated care, according to a Commonwealth Fund–supported study by Dobson DaVanzo researchers.
