Growing Concern over Low Vaccination Rates in the Netherlands

Despite overall high levels of immunization coverage in the Netherlands, vaccination rates are decreasing, according to a recent report from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. The 0.5 percent drop seen in 2016 is part of a three-year downward trend. In the Netherlands, vaccination rates against measles are currently below 95 percent, the minimum standard set by the World Health Organization. The report also indicated that decreasing vaccination rates are a persistent trend among certain conservative religious groups; the Dutch Minister of Health is investigating the reasons behind mistrust of vaccinations among certain groups.
