Improving Access to Outpatient Mental Health Care in Germany

Reforms to improve access to outpatient mental health care went into effect throughout Germany in April. The reforms include changes such as offering short diagnostic consultations to provide more timely access to acute care, faster approval by health insurers to begin treatment, more flexibility on the timeline during which psychotherapists can offer relapse prevention, improved telephone availability to schedule appointments, and more flexibility to combine individual and group therapies.
