In January 2017 the German Federal Parliament passed a new law on the medical use of cannabis among severely ill patients. It mandates that Germany’s health insurance system cover the cost of cannabis medicines prescribed by physicians. Furthermore, a Federal Cannabis Agency was set up to ensure that cannabis used for medicinal purposes is of pharmaceutical quality.
