The Australian government will provide an additional $649 million per year to create and expand residential aged-care facilities in Australia. About 10,000 older Australians will benefit from new facilities in rural areas, upgrades to existing facilities, and new specialized services such as dementia units. Last February, the federal government provided a similar increase to “Short-Term Restorative Care” facilities, which offer older adults flexible care options while they are recovering from illnesses and injuries.
