By releasing more of the health plan enrollment data they gather, the state-based marketplaces established under the ACA could improve oversight of insurance markets and help policymakers more easily identify areas where consumers could be better served. Georgetown University’s Sean Miskell, Justin Giovannelli, and Kevin Lucia explain in a blog post that some of the 17 state-based marketplaces have made public very little data about enrollee demographics or enrollment by insurance carrier or health plan.
