Germany is using its new German Antimicrobial Resistance Strategy, known as DART 2020, to slow the development and spread of antibiotic resistance in medicine and agriculture. The government has signed off on strategies to increase the monitoring and reporting of early resistance. The plan also will increase education for health care workers and require hospitals to include additional information on hygiene standards in their quality reporting. This new campaign is in response to the large number of deaths per year caused by antibiotic resistance, making other conditions more difficult to treat.
