In a commentary published in the American Journal of Accountable Care, The Commonwealth Fund's Dominique Hall and Mark Zezza note that while many payment reform programs offer incentives to health care organizations for controlling costs or improving care, incentives for individual providers working in these organizations are often linked to productivity and other traditional metrics. Noting that "payment and delivery reforms will achieve the greatest success when the financial incentives facing organizations are aligned with those of their frontline providers," the authors offer strategies for aligning both financial and nonfinancial provider incentives.
