Thomas Bodenheimer, M.D., is a general internist who spent 32 years in primary care practice in San Francisco’s Mission District—10 years in community health centers and 22 years in private practice. He is currently adjunct professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He and Kevin Grumbach are coauthors of the books Understanding Health Policy—A Clinical Approach and Improving Primary Care: Strategies and Tools for a Better Practice. Dr. Bodenheimer received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School.
