Somnath Saha is a staff physician at the Portland VA Medical Center and associate professor of medicine, public health and preventive medicine, and medical informatics and clinical epidemiology at the Oregon Health and Science University. He received his medical degree and post-graduate training in internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He was a fellow in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Washington, where he obtained a master's degree in public health. With support from the VA Health Services Research and Development Service and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Generalist Physician Faculty Scholars Program, Dr. Saha has conducted research focusing on the influence of race and ethnicity in the patient–physician relationship and its relationship to racial disparities in the quality of health care. His current work employs the principles of community-based participatory research and involves both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
