Peter Margolis

Peter Margolis is a professor of pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and co-director of the Cincinnati Children's Center for Health Care Quality. Previously, he was a professor of pediatrics and epidemiology and co-director of the North Carolina Center for Children's Healthcare Improvement. The Cincinnati Center for Health Care Quality is the result of a merger of the North Carolina Center and the Center for Health Policy and Clinical Effectiveness at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Dr. Margolis works with practices and health care organizations to assist them in designing better systems of care for children. Dr. Margolis obtained his M.D. from New York University and his pediatric training at the University of Colorado, where he also served as chief resident in pediatrics. He subsequently spent three years in the National Health Service Corps in Rochester, N.Y., and Los Angeles, CA., before coming to the UNC in 1987 as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. He earned his Ph.D. in epidemiology at UNC in 1990 and joined the faculty in 1991. In 1994, Dr. Margolis was named a Robert Wood Johnson Generalist Faculty Scholar. Dr. Margolis' research focuses on how to redesign the health care delivery system to improve the health and developmental outcomes of children. He has led a range of projects including studies of clinical decision making, community-wide efforts linking public health systems and primary care practices to improve the delivery of preventive care to mothers and children, and a randomized trial of practice-based assistance to improve the delivery of preventive services.
