Matthew J. Carlson, Ph.D., is a medical sociologist with a primary interest in health care access, quality, and health disparities. He is currently an assistant professor of sociology at Portland State University, where he is co-leading a three-year cohort study on the impact of Oregon Health Plan program changes on health care access and quality among adult Medicaid beneficiaries. Dr. Carlson has presented papers and published articles on a wide range of topics, including access to health care, consumer experiences with managed health and mental health care, the influence of patient satisfaction on substance abuse treatment outcomes, compulsive gambling, and domestic violence intervention.
