Biography at time of Mongan Commonwealth Fund Fellowship: Dr. Mary Fleming most recently served as the administrative chief resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Meharry Medical College. Dr. Fleming plans to pursue a career in public health. She was drawn to Meharry because of its unique Women's Center for Health Research, which is dedicated to eliminating health disparities. An externship at the Emma Goldman Clinic in Iowa City cemented her focus on women's health in the community. Dr. Fleming also participated in an epidemiology elective at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, working with staff to track the origin and spread of the avian flu, and she has held positions with the Student National Medical Association, Vanderbilt University Medical School Admission Committee, and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists. Dr. Fleming received her medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 2006.
