Kristen Schorsch is a reporter for WBEZ Chicago Public Radio. Her project will examine the hospital system on the South Side of Chicago. Mercy Hospital, the oldest medical center in Chicago, and the associated half-dozen clinics, are set to close in the next year. As a safety-net hospital for minority communities with huge health disparities, the trickle-down effect from the closure could be disastrous for the primarily Black, Latinx/Hispanic, and Asian population that has been hit hardest by COVID-19.
