Kate Vanden Broek works in the Division of Medicaid at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. Previously, she was executive director of the Idaho State Planning Grant on the Uninsured (ISPG) from 2001 to 2004, in which capacity she worked with a variety of public and private stakeholders to reduce the number of uninsured Idahoans. The work of the ISPG informed the development of the Idaho Health Insurance Access Card Act of 2003, which expanded Idaho's Children's Health Insurance Program and establishes a public-private partnership to cover working uninsured adults.
Project: Kate's project examined the experience of industry and government in implementing changes to the regulation of products in the private health insurance industry. She examined a proposed health insurance performance monitoring program, studied other forms of performance-based regulation, and recommended changes to the program to the Private Health Insurance Branch of the Department of Health and Ageing. She was based in the Private Health Insurance Branch.
Highlights: ". . . the Private Health Insurance Branch became a true home away from home, both professionally and personally, and I am very grateful for their hospitality."
