Dr. Nieves is currently the Assistant Director, Department of Medicine at Hartford Hospital, as well as Assistant Professor for the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Nieves sits on the board of directors for Qualidigm—Connecticut's quality improvement organization (QIO)—and the Connecticut Universal Health Care Foundation. He was also founder and president of the Connecticut Chapter for the Society of Hospital Medicine and was responsible for the development of the Hospitalist Program at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, Conn. He has also served on the Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs Commission for the State of Connecticut, and as a primary care physician serving the Hartford urban community. Dr. Nieves incorporates preventative medicine and wellness promotion measures in his practice, and is interested in the issues of health care quality management and integration.Dr. Nieves received his medical degree from Cornell Medical College in 1995, and completed his residency at the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Program in 1998.
