Joan Reede

Director of Minority Faculty Development, Harvard Medical School

Joan Reede, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., M.B.A., is director of the Minority Faculty Development Program and faculty director of Community Outreach Programs at Harvard Medical School. Appointed as the first Dean for Diversity and Community Partnership in January 2002, she is responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive program that provides leadership, guidance, and support to promote the increased recruitment, retention and advancement of under-represented minority faculty at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Reede is also a founder and director of the Mongan Commonwealth Fund Fellowship (formerly the Commonwealth Fund/Harvard University Fellowship in Minority Health Policy), which offers physicians with an interest in minority and disadvantaged populations professional training for leadership positions in health care policy and practice. A graduate of Brown University and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Reede completed her pediatric residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and a child psychiatry fellowship at Children's Hospital in Boston.
