Biography at time of Mongan Commonwealth Fund Fellowship: Dr. Ashaunta Tumblin recently completed her pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She was a research fellow of the National Institutes of Health in 2005–06 and a Schweitzer Fellow at the Hospital of Dr. Albert Schweitzer in Lambaréné, Gabon, during the summer of 2006. It was this latter experience that solidified her commitment to clinical and research training geared toward informing policies that help meet the medical needs of minority populations. Through her ongoing work with the Student National Medical Association, she became involved with the Girls Achieving in Life Sciences (GALS) Program, partnering with a local community afterschool program to create a new GALS program for preadolescents. Dr. Tumblin graduated cum laude from Harvard Medical School in 2007.
