Alan Bavley has been a reporter for the past 35 years, first at newspapers in New Jersey and Florida and since 1988 at the Kansas City Star. He’s covered health care for most of his career. He was born in New York City and lived around the country while growing up. He graduated from Columbia University and received a master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. Bavley lives in Kansas City and has two daughters. One is an elementary school teacher and the other a college sophomore.
