Through the United Hospital Fund of New York, this project will support Dr. Dave Chokshi’s participation in the Visiting Scholar Program at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (FRBNY), where he will leverage his expertise as a clinician, public health practitioner, and health policy expert to inject a health equity lens into the FRBNY’s work. Dr. Chokshi will collaborate with economic policymakers to identify and assess groundbreaking ideas at the intersection of economic and health policy for promotion under the Community Development Unit, such as: examining how health systems and insurance companies can contribute to community wealth-building; probing how COVID-19-related economic stimulus payments may pave the way for other conditional cash transfers to vulnerable populations; dismantling structural racism in monetary policy and lending practices; and developing a new framework for the Community Reinvestment Act prioritizing health. Dr. Chokshi was selected for the fellowship to advise the leadership of the FRBNY and develop its future strategy and economic policies to improve health outcomes for low-income communities and communities of color.
