This project will assess federal, state, and local energy and climate policies that can drive comprehensive and equitable decarbonization in the health care sector. They will do this by performing a literature review; analyzing existing laws, regulations, and policies; and conducting interviews with experts. They will focus on initiatives that: 1) encourage health care facilities to shift to use of clean energy generation; 2) reduce transportation emissions from health care–related vehicles and fleets; 3) promote multiple benefits for frontline communities near health care delivery facilities; and 4) identify procurement approaches to drive reductions in supply chain (Scope 3) emissions. These initiatives are essential to the heath care sector’s decarbonization and will complement health care policy approaches (e.g., reimbursement incentives) designed to reduce emissions in health care delivery organizations.
