Columbia Journalism Review aims to enrich the public's understanding of health care issues by speaking directly to the nation's journalists and encouraging informed and unbiased reporting. Coverage of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, a core focus of the project since the law's passage, continues to be a tricky subject for journalists to cover. CJR covers local markets all over the country, while also taking big-picture looks at coverage of major national stories. Additionally, it adds original reporting, leading to more heft and detail, including a good balance of praise and helpful how-to explainers with pointed criticism. The audience for this project is first and foremost journalists, but with a secondary focus, through social media, on the public at large. Both local and national journalists find The Second Opinion to be a useful resource for improving their trade and learning how to report on healthcare issues effectively.
